Our Proposal On August 22, 2009, Kathryn and Tom were engaged to be married. This is the story of that day: |
||
Much like most of the 2009 summer, Saturday, August 22nd was an abnormally cool and gloomy day. But Tom had a plan that was already in motion and there was no turning back. Tom was going to ask Kathryn to marry him on top of the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes as the sun set on Lake Michigan. For most of the day, the sun was nowhere to be found. But in the waning hours of daylight, the clouds began to break up just a bit and clear skies appeared on the horizon. Other than the 60 degree temperature, the situation was coming together. Tom and Kathryn climbed up the Dunes to a point where most of the westerly sky was in view. They sat down, enjoyed the view of Glen Lake, and drank some wine. Kathryn hadn't a clue as to what was coming... The remaining clouds in the sky began to look like fire...it's time to do it! |
Over the years and several trips Up North, Tom had told Kathryn stories of how beautiful the sunsets are atop the Dunes. However, they had yet to actually experience such a site together. So on that Saturday, Tom prepared a picnic basket with wine and crackers, and convinced Kathryn that despite the weather, now was as good a time as any to trek up the dunes. As the sun peeked out behind the clouds on the horizon, the back of Alligator Hill began to turn orange. It was such an amazing site. Tom knew the time was approaching... Neither Tom nor Kathryn can quite remember what was said, but the proposal was flawless. SHE SAID YES!! The tears were flowing from Kathryn's eyes. Can you tell? |
